Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? People should not pay to the public transportation.

    Rewritten Sample Essay

The answers vary when people are asked whether they should pay for public transportation. In spite of this very issue having been discussed for decades, people, all around the world, hold that it‘s better for people not to be obligated to pay for public transportation. It is my personal view that there is no clear or definite answer to this complex question.

First and foremost, our government might not have sufficient taxes to pay for public transportation for all inhabitants. It is well known that China is still a developing country, unlike the U.S.A . and the U.K., are there are many fields far needier for money than a free public transportation project.

Education is a typical example of this situation. The government plans to invest about 3% of all tax income on education this year, which is much less than the educational allocation of all the developed countries. We are all aware that education is one of the most essential basics of a country‘s development, and even though the government would like to make public transportation free, we should call for them to invest this money into education, especially basic education.

In addition, the current cost of public transportation is very low and almost everyone can afford this, as the elderly and disabled are able to be offered a much lower price.

In Hangzhou, the highest price for taking a bus is 4 yuan person, which even a beggar can afford. On the other hand, more and more people have cars the price of which is decreasing rapidly People, who hate the noise and fumes in buses and taxis, would prefer to drive themselves to the places they want to go. Thus, more and more people buy cars today for their convenience and abandon public transportation. In this situation, it seems that whether the public transportation is free, does not matter much.

Last but also importantly, if public transportation was free, we could take buses, taxis, trains and even planes. What a wonderful situation! We can come and go much easier than before, without having to pay for this service. At the same time, although more and more people can afford a car, they may not be able to afford the fees and costs that come along with the car, such as the price of gasoline that is increasing rapidly and therefore want to go to work by bus or some other public transportation. Not only can this reduce the cost, but also protect the environment as personal vehicles emit large amounts of harmful gases.

In conclusion, I am of the opinion that it is beneficial for both the environment and the population if public transportation is free. However, the government does not have the capacity to fund this totally at present, so we should pay for it temporarily, believing we will not need to pay for it one day, as our country evolves.
