    Richard ： Ellen. My younger brother， Robbie. He goes to high school.
This is my sister Susan. She works for a toy company. Here's my grandfather.
He lives in Florida. And this is my wife Marilyn. Alexandra ： Oh ， she's
very pretty. Richard： Thanks.

    1. Would you like some coffee ？

    Would you like……相當(dāng)于“你想要……嗎？”，在客氣地請對方做某事或
請客時用。

    如本文中，Richard 問Alexandra “想來一點(diǎn)咖啡嗎”，他說 "Would you
like some coffee？" 在談到自己的書Family Album， U.S.A. 時，他問對方
“想要看一看嗎”，"Would you like to see them ？" 如果我們不想接受，就
說"No ， thank you."如果愿意接受，則說"Yes. I'd like that." 或者"Yes.
Please."

    在本情境中出現(xiàn)的兩次"Thanks"都是對于別人贊美的回應(yīng)。

要表示樂于接受并愉快地感謝，不要急于否認(rèn)或自貶，也不要表現(xiàn)得扭捏不安。

    所以無論是人家說你的英語好——"Your English is very good."，還是稱
贊你的夫人很漂亮——"Oh ， she's very pretty."，都不必不好意思，只要說
聲 "Thank you"就可以了。
