黑利伯瑞國(guó)際學(xué)校小學(xué)部剛剛度過(guò)的兩個(gè)星期依然是令人興奮又喜悅的。多年來(lái), 助教一直是小學(xué)英語(yǔ)部不可缺少的成員。他們的主要任務(wù)是幫助外籍教師把英語(yǔ)翻譯成漢語(yǔ),以便學(xué)生們更好地理解外籍教師所傳達(dá)的內(nèi)容。除此之外,助教還協(xié)助教師進(jìn)行課堂管理和其他事務(wù), 如協(xié)助家長(zhǎng)教師面談、翻譯、監(jiān)管學(xué)生書寫和晚自習(xí)。目前,小學(xué)部有三位全職助教:周女士、吳先生和范女士。盡管助教的工作時(shí)間很長(zhǎng),工作內(nèi)容大多是指定的,但他們依然面帶微笑地工作。外籍教師們都很感激助教們的幫助。對(duì)小學(xué)部而言, 助教就是實(shí)現(xiàn)教學(xué)目標(biāo)的得力幫手。
On the morning of Friday the 7th of December, the primary school held another vocabulary competition. Originally, the competition was targeted at students from the year 6 B1 class but just before the contest was due to begin, an invitation was extended to every student in the primary school. Surprisingly, about 25 students from year 4 and 5 also joined the competition. All the words were past tense verbs from the B1 CEFR level and the format followed the same elimination structure as before. The performance of the students did not disappoint. Many students and staff were impressed by the lightning fast English recall of the students. In the end, Coco Li from 6 Green won the contest with Andy Gao from 6 Green coming a close second. Congratulations must go to Ms. Gao and her year 6 Green class for their diligence and their hard work in their English learning this semester. Congratulations also to their English teacher –Mr. Fang who supported and assisted in the learning of the words.
十二月七日星期五的上午,小學(xué)部又舉辦了一次詞匯比賽。比賽最初是針對(duì)六年級(jí)B1班的學(xué)生,但在比賽開始之前,老師們向小學(xué)部的每個(gè)學(xué)生發(fā)出了邀請(qǐng)。出乎意料的是,有25名四年級(jí)和五年級(jí)的學(xué)生也參加了比賽。所有比賽詞匯都是B1 CEFR級(jí)別的動(dòng)詞過(guò)去式,賽制仍然是淘汰制。參賽選手們都表現(xiàn)不錯(cuò),尤其是選手們快速記憶英語(yǔ)單詞的能力令大家印象深刻。最后,6 Green班的Coco 贏得了比賽,同班的Andy排名第二。讓我們祝賀高老師及6Green班,正是這個(gè)學(xué)期同學(xué)們?cè)谟⒄Z(yǔ)學(xué)習(xí)上的勤奮和努力使得他們獲此殊榮。同時(shí)也祝賀他們的英語(yǔ)老師方老師,他為學(xué)生英語(yǔ)單詞的學(xué)習(xí)提供了足夠的支持和幫助。
On Tuesday the 4th of December, an international English team building dinner was held at Bella Vita – an Italian restaurant in the Florentia Village Designer Outlet complex in Wuqing. Although teachers in each sub-school regularly interact with each other, it is more difficult for teachers between sub-schools to network with each other. Moreover, as delicious as Chinese food is, Western food is preferred by international staff because we are more accustomed to it. For these reasons, a team bonding dinner was organised by Ms. Cheryl Mckenna who is the head of English at our school. The night began with an entrée which was crusty bread with an olive paste side-dish. It was then followed by meat and cheese salads, gourmet pizza and two roasted turkeys. The beverages were red wine, spirits, tea and coffee. An early Christmas was also celebrated with the exchange of gifts following a secret Santa format. It was a fantastic night; not just because delicious food was eaten but also because the teachers were also able to mingle and network with each other.
十二月四日星期二,國(guó)際英語(yǔ)教師的聯(lián)誼晚宴在美好時(shí)光餐廳舉行。美好時(shí)光是一家位于武清區(qū)佛羅倫薩小鎮(zhèn)的意式餐廳。雖然各部門的教師工作有交集,但很難有機(jī)會(huì)密切溝通和交流,而且對(duì)于許多國(guó)際教師而言,雖然中餐很誘人,但出于習(xí)慣,西餐仍是他們的。因此,學(xué)校的英語(yǔ)負(fù)責(zé)人Cheryl Mckenna女士組織了一場(chǎng)聯(lián)誼晚宴。晚宴的主菜是硬皮面包加橄欖醬, 還有肉、奶酪沙拉、美味比薩和兩個(gè)烤火雞。飲料有紅葡萄酒、烈酒、茶和咖啡。老師們也通過(guò)圣誕的傳統(tǒng)方式交換了禮物,提前慶祝了圣誕節(jié)。這是一個(gè)美妙的夜晚,不僅僅有美食,老師們也有機(jī)會(huì)走進(jìn)彼此的世界。
Mr. Webb joined our international primary school teaching team in May 2017 initially teaching performing arts and science. Last school year he taught English in Years 1, 3 and 6. This year, he is teaching English to Year 1 Green; P.E. to Years 1 and 2 and drama to all our classes. Mr. Webb grew up in Auckland, New Zealand. He initially had plans on being a sports journalist then a music artist but decided to study education after being offered work in a childcare centre. Mr. Webb naturally connected well with children and was encouraged to pursue teaching. After gaining his bachelor of primary education at the University of Auckland he continued to work in childcare centres from 2010-2013. After that he moved to Brisbane in Queensland, Australia where he was a relief teacher in 100 primary schools. This gave him the opportunity to teach a variety of different subjects in a variety of different schools and communities. Inspired by a visit to Shanghai to see a friend who was the principal of an international school there, he decided to apply for an international job. Two interviews in Melbourne led to two job offers and he chose Haileybury that was strongly advised by his friend. As a teacher he aims to create an environment or atmosphere that safely enables change or growth to take place. He strongly believes that providing a relaxed learning environment is the most effective way of teaching. When the teacher respects students and their opinions, it is very likely that students will in return show their respect for the teacher. Taking students, their needs and opinions seriously helps to build a healthy relationship, which as a result increases learning and knowledge. He believes effective teaching involves drawing from the student’s prior knowledge and personal experiences, which are valued and can be built on or examined. He aims to encourage his students to work from their level of understanding, learn to explore their own ideas and be open to development or changes to their perspective. We are delighted to have Mr. Webb in the primary school this year and we trust he will have a productive and successful year of teaching.
Webb先生于2017年5月加入我們的國(guó)際小學(xué)教學(xué)團(tuán)隊(duì),開始教授表演藝術(shù)和科學(xué)。上個(gè)學(xué)年,他教授一、三、六年級(jí)的英語(yǔ)。本學(xué)期他教授的是1Green班的英語(yǔ),1年級(jí)和2年級(jí)的體育課,還有小學(xué)部所有班的戲劇課。Webb先生在新西蘭的奧克蘭長(zhǎng)大,最初他打算成為一名體育記者,然后成為一名音樂(lè)藝術(shù)家。但在一家托幼中心工作后,他決定學(xué)習(xí)教育。Webb先生天生就和孩子們關(guān)系很好,并且一直被鼓勵(lì)從事教學(xué)。在獲得奧克蘭大學(xué)初等教育學(xué)士學(xué)位后,他從2010-2013年繼續(xù)在托幼中心工作。之后,他搬到了澳大利亞昆士蘭的布里斯班,在那里他擔(dān)任了100所小學(xué)的救濟(jì)教師。這使他有機(jī)會(huì)在不同的學(xué)校和社區(qū)教授各種不同的科目。受上海之行的啟發(fā),他決定申請(qǐng)一份國(guó)際性的工作。在墨爾本的兩次面試讓他收到了兩份工作邀請(qǐng),最終他選擇了黑利伯瑞,而這也正是他的朋友強(qiáng)烈建議的。作為一名教師,他的目標(biāo)是創(chuàng)造一種良好的教育環(huán)境和氛圍。他堅(jiān)信提供一個(gè)輕松的學(xué)習(xí)環(huán)境是最有效的教學(xué)方法。當(dāng)老師尊重學(xué)生并聽從他們的意見時(shí),學(xué)生也會(huì)十分尊重老師。認(rèn)真對(duì)待學(xué)生的需要和意見有助于建立良好的師生關(guān)系,從而更加有助于學(xué)生學(xué)習(xí)知識(shí)。他認(rèn)為,有效的教學(xué)需要結(jié)合學(xué)生先前的知識(shí)和個(gè)人經(jīng)驗(yàn),而這些是十分有價(jià)值的,也是可以建立和檢驗(yàn)的。他的目標(biāo)是,讓學(xué)生根據(jù)自身的理解力,鼓勵(lì)他們?nèi)W(xué)習(xí)和探索新的想法,從自身的角度考慮發(fā)展和改變。今年,我們因?yàn)閃ebb 老師在這里教書而感到高興,我們也相信他的教學(xué)會(huì)取得豐碩的成果。
