Dear Senior School Parents and Families,

　　親愛的家長們，

　　As we approach the end of the second semester, students continue in their  effort to improve their English language level through positive study skills,  hard work and a sound learning environment. Achievements are difficult to trace  at times but all students are developing and maturing as we see in their  attitude of hard work, facing challenges and re-invention by finding new ways to  motivate themselves. Facing challenges often has a positive affect where as a  student wants to achieve higher levels and is willing to work hard to achieve  their goals. Each student has positive influencers, their teachers, homeroom  teachers and the Senior School administration, who are guiding, mentoring and  continuously encouraging.

　　黑利伯瑞國際高中部本學(xué)年的第二學(xué)期即將結(jié)束，學(xué)生們憑借自己的學(xué)習(xí)能力、自己的努力也依靠學(xué)校良好的學(xué)習(xí)環(huán)境不斷提高自身的英語水平。成績的進(jìn)步是一方面，所有學(xué)生在成績提高的過程中所表現(xiàn)出來的努力的態(tài)度，面對挑戰(zhàn)和重新尋找新的方式來激勵自己的精神是值得贊美的。當(dāng)學(xué)生面對挑戰(zhàn)時(shí)，挑戰(zhàn)帶給他們更多的是積極的影響，是挑戰(zhàn)在不斷督促他們?nèi)��?shí)現(xiàn)更高的目標(biāo)。每個學(xué)生身邊都有帶給他們積極影響的人們，他們的老師、班主任和管理人員，都在對他們進(jìn)行不斷的指導(dǎo)和鼓勵。

　　CCTV演講大賽

　　Five students in year 10 and 2 students in year 11 participated in Round 1  of the CCTV Competition. All 7 were eligible to go to Round 2 and 2 students in  year 10 took the challenge. We are proud of their accomplishments as it takes  courage and commitment to take part in extra-curricular activities. All students  had a special lunch with the International Vice-Principal/Head of Senior School,  Yanni Galanis and received certificates at the recent assembly.

　　5名10年級學(xué)生和2名11年級學(xué)生加入了CCTV演講大賽的輪比賽之中。這7名學(xué)生都順利晉級了第二輪比賽，其中10年級的2名學(xué)生接受了第二輪的挑戰(zhàn)。我們?yōu)樗麄兡芙邮茉谡n業(yè)之外的挑戰(zhàn)而感到驕傲。這些學(xué)生同國際副校長Yanni  Galanis先生一同共進(jìn)午餐并且在近期的校會上得到了榮譽(yù)證書。

　　‘’You may work very hard for your dream of going to a top university, you  may try to get an excellent score for your next SAC, or you may be doing things  you are interested in. To do these things, you need to have one of the most  important qualities, which is persistence. I’m very persistent in my English  studying even though I have two years’ experience in Australia. Having a head  start doesn’t mean that I don’t need to strive and persist. I am continuously  improving myself.’’

　　Cambridge Exam Registration

　　劍橋 考試注冊

　　The Cambridge Exam registration for year 10 and 11 students has been  completed. In total more than 300 students in the school will sit the KET for  Schools and PET for Schools exam on June 23 and 30 for the FCE for Schools exam  on June 30, either in Beijing or Tianjin. In early June, we will send a letter  to parents through your child’s homeroom teacher to remind students what they  need to take to the exam and the exam location details.

　　10、11年級等300名學(xué)生已經(jīng)完成注冊劍橋英語考試。6月23日將進(jìn)行KET和PET考試，6月30日將進(jìn)行FCE考試，考試地點(diǎn)在北京或天津。在六月初，我們將通過班主任老師發(fā)送家長信，提醒學(xué)生所需要參加的考試和考試地點(diǎn)等細(xì)節(jié)。

　　Plans for Exam Preparation

　　考試準(zhǔn)備計(jì)劃

　　Final ESL English exams for Haileybury are scheduled for the week of June  11- 15. Focus on the students remains twofold: to work and support their  progress in their English level and to prepare them for the Cambridge exams. We  have been integrating the PET and FCE for Schools exam style, questions and  skills needed to understand and accomplish the tasks which include Reading, Use  of English, Listening, Writing and Speaking. Every month, we introduce a new  skill, focus on that skill and recycle the language and skills learned in  assessments and quizzes. The exam tasks/skills are integrated into the biweekly  tests so the students are embedding and using knowledge learned and getting the  extra practice needed for exam preparation.

　　本學(xué)期英語期末考試將定于6月11-15日舉行。對于學(xué)生的學(xué)習(xí)指導(dǎo)工作仍然是雙重的：一是針對期末考試及日常英語進(jìn)步，二是針對劍橋英語考試。我們已經(jīng)整合了關(guān)于PET和FCE考試的考試形式、出題方式和答題技巧以幫助學(xué)生進(jìn)行聽、說、讀、寫四方面的考前準(zhǔn)備。每個月，我們都會強(qiáng)化一種技能的學(xué)習(xí)，專注這項(xiàng)技能，進(jìn)行評估和檢測。我們引入雙周測評模式，這樣學(xué)生就可以嵌入和使用自己所學(xué)的知識，并獲得考試準(zhǔn)備所需的額外練習(xí)。

　　Upon completion of the Haileybury final exams, focus will continue for the  final preparation for the Cambridge exams. Final results should be available  approximately 6 weeks after students’ sit the exam.

　　Cambridge Exams have been designed to determine the student’s level of  English for both work and study purposes. Each of the different exams have been  created to test students with different levels and test the four skills of the  English language: reading, writing, listening and speaking. The exams will also  be looking at your level of vocabulary and grammar.

　　劍橋考試的目的就是為確定學(xué)生的英語水平而進(jìn)行的。每一個不同的考試都是用來測試不同層次的學(xué)生，測試英語的四種技能：讀、寫、聽、說。同樣，通過此項(xiàng)考試考試，也會檢測到學(xué)生的詞匯和語法水平。

　　The PET (Preliminary English Test) for Schools exam shows a student can use  everyday English at an intermediate level. It covers all four language skills  (Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening) and knowledge of grammar and  vocabulary.

　　PET(初級英語測試)表明，學(xué)生可以使用中等水平的日常英語。它涵蓋了四種語言技能(讀、寫、說、聽)和語法和詞匯知識。

　　With the FCE (Cambridge English: First) for Schools, students will be able  to prove that their level is B2 (Upper Intermediate), which means they are able  to handle the main structures of the English language with confidence,  demonstrate knowledge of a range of vocabulary and use appropriate communicative  strategies. There are four different sections to the exam: Reading and Use of  English, Writing, Listening and Speaking.

　　FCE考試，學(xué)生將能夠證明他們的水平是B2(及以上)，這意味著他們能夠自信地運(yùn)用英語的主要結(jié)構(gòu)，展示并恰當(dāng)使用一系列詞匯，并通過聯(lián)想策略來進(jìn)行合適的溝通交流�？荚囉兴膫�不同的部分：閱讀和英語使用，寫作，聽力和口語。
