Dear parents and families,

　　親愛的家長(zhǎng)們：

　　With three more weeks until the May week-long holiday, the primary school is a hive of activity. Teachers are busy administering their mid-semester examinations, organising their reports and preparing for our parent meetings. The students are working hard at achieving their personal best, but enjoying the many festive Easter activities too. It is an exciting, but busy time for everyone. Please enjoy reading this fortnight’s bulletin, which provides you with a unique insight into the workings of our primary sub-school.

　　距離五一假期還有三周多的時(shí)間，小學(xué)部的各種活動(dòng)正在熱火朝天地進(jìn)行中。老師們積極籌備期中考試、撰寫報(bào)告、準(zhǔn)備家長(zhǎng)會(huì)等事宜，學(xué)生們則在盡情享受豐富的復(fù)活節(jié)活動(dòng)的同時(shí)，也不忘努力復(fù)習(xí)考試，期待突破自我。忙碌與快樂是每個(gè)人的主旋律。請(qǐng)認(rèn)真閱讀本期公告，我們將會(huì)與您分享小學(xué)分部工作的信息。

　　This week your child is taking their mid-semester examinations in English, Chinese and Mathematics. The Chinese and Mathematics examinations will be administered on Thursday. We have deliberately structured time within our Thursday timetable for students to quietly study towards these examinations and take a well-earned rest between them. Throughout this week your child’s International Teacher will administer different components of their examination: Speaking and Listening, Reading and Viewing and Writing. A lot of the English examination needs to be administered through a one on one conversation. This takes time, but rich information about your child’s learning needs is observed during these sessions.

　　本周學(xué)生們會(huì)迎來語文、數(shù)學(xué)、英語三門期中考試。語文和數(shù)學(xué)考試會(huì)在周四進(jìn)行。我們會(huì)在當(dāng)天為孩子們制定合理的時(shí)間表，保證他們可以安靜復(fù)習(xí)、專心考試，同時(shí)也能好好休息，勞逸結(jié)合。外教將會(huì)負(fù)責(zé)不同的考試項(xiàng)目，包括口語與聽力、閱讀觀察與寫作。許多英語考試項(xiàng)目都是一對(duì)一進(jìn)行，雖然更為耗時(shí)，但卻能夠?yàn)楹⒆拥尼槍?duì)性教學(xué)提供更加豐富的信息，以便查漏補(bǔ)缺。

　　At the conclusion of the examinations, teachers will then moderate and grade your child’s paper. Your child’s grade will be communicated to you through a report. On this report you will also receive commentary from all your child’s subject teachers about their learning progress. Please read the teachers’ commentaries carefully and open-mindedly. The teachers not only report on your child’s test scores, but they will share with you other skills, knowledge and thinking, which is not captured during an examination. In other words, your child’s examination score is not their only predictor of their current and future learning success.

　　考試結(jié)束后，教師們會(huì)進(jìn)行閱卷判分。學(xué)生成績(jī)會(huì)以報(bào)告的形式提供給您。在這份報(bào)告中，您還可以看到各科老師對(duì)其學(xué)習(xí)情況的評(píng)價(jià)，煩請(qǐng)放寬心態(tài)認(rèn)真閱讀。除了考試成績(jī)，老師們還會(huì)和您分享一些孩子們的其他突出技能、知識(shí)儲(chǔ)備與思維能力等，這些都是無法在試卷中體現(xiàn)的。換言之，考試成績(jī)并不是孩子目前學(xué)習(xí)狀況以及未來成就的評(píng)判標(biāo)準(zhǔn)。

　　To provide you with the bigger picture of your child’s learning progress, parent and teacher meetings have been scheduled over the next few weeks. In these meetings both the teacher and parent will have an opportunity to discuss learning achievements, challenges and goals for the remainder of the semester. These meetings will also provide you with the opportunity to view your child’s learning through the work that they have produced. You will also have an opportunity to ask specific questions about your child, which in a group parent meeting are not possible. Interpretation support will be available in all meetings. Soon, information will be communicated to you describing how you can book into these meetings with all subject teachers.

　　為了讓您對(duì)孩子的學(xué)習(xí)情況有更加深入的了解，未來幾周學(xué)校還會(huì)組織教師與家長(zhǎng)見面會(huì)。在見面會(huì)上，您可以就下半學(xué)期的學(xué)習(xí)成果、挑戰(zhàn)以及目標(biāo)與老師進(jìn)行討論，可以通過學(xué)習(xí)成果了解孩子的學(xué)習(xí)情況，還可以針對(duì)孩子具體情況對(duì)老師進(jìn)行咨詢，這是普通的集體家長(zhǎng)會(huì)無法比擬的。所有見面會(huì)都將配備口譯服務(wù)。隨后我們會(huì)將如何與學(xué)科老師預(yù)約見面會(huì)的信息發(fā)送給您，敬請(qǐng)期待。

　　Easter is an important calendar event in the Western world. It is a religious festival and holiday celebrated by Christians and many other cultures alike. Easter celebrates the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. The story of Easter is well-known. In the Western world, Easter is celebrated in many ways. Over the next few weeks we will teach our students how we celebrate Easter and enjoy the many traditions and customs that go with it. When teaching our students about cultural and religious events, we always present an open-dialogue that respects all families’ beliefs and values. We always present information to our students in a safe, supportive and caring environment.

　　復(fù)活節(jié)，是一個(gè)由基督教徒及其他相似文化背景的人們共同慶祝的宗教節(jié)日，在西方國(guó)家有著舉足輕重的地位。有關(guān)它的故事想必大家都耳熟能詳，節(jié)日旨在慶祝耶穌從死里復(fù)活，慶祝方式更是多種多樣。在未來的幾周里，我們將會(huì)教孩子們?nèi)绾瓮ㄟ^各種傳統(tǒng)風(fēng)俗來進(jìn)行節(jié)日慶祝。同時(shí)也會(huì)始終尊重所有家庭的信仰和價(jià)值觀，在安全、包容和關(guān)愛的環(huán)境下向?qū)W生輸送知識(shí)的養(yǎng)分。

　　It may be a busy time, but it is also a very exciting time to be learning within the primary sub-school. Examinations, assessment and reporting provide an opportunity for everybody in the primary school community to reflect on the fantastic teaching and learning programs we provide. I know that all students have made learning progress in many areas. We look forward to seeing you at our forthcoming parent meetings and reporting to you on the progress we have observed your child making.
