加拿大教育由各省負(fù)責(zé)，聯(lián)邦政府不設(shè)教育部。由于加拿大地域廣闊，各省之間經(jīng)濟(jì)發(fā)展水平參差不齊，　各省建立了適合自身發(fā)展、相對(duì)獨(dú)立的教育體制。
    加拿大政府認(rèn)可的高等教育機(jī)構(gòu)分為大學(xué)(University)和社區(qū)學(xué)院(College)等。加拿大大學(xué)絕大多數(shù)是公立大學(xué)，攻讀本科一般需要3-4年，碩士研究生需要1-2年；博士研究生需要3年。社區(qū)學(xué)院側(cè)重培養(yǎng)應(yīng)用性專業(yè)技術(shù)人才，一般期限為2至3年。該類學(xué)校一般提供大專文憑與各種證書，不頒發(fā)學(xué)位，但可以選擇一些以后可轉(zhuǎn)讀大學(xué)深造的課程，學(xué)制為1至2年，學(xué)完后可轉(zhuǎn)入正規(guī)大學(xué)二、三年級(jí)繼續(xù)攻讀本科課程。目前，在加拿大以公司形式注冊(cè)的私立學(xué)校數(shù)以千計(jì)，其專業(yè)、學(xué)科設(shè)置和教師資格等方面尚無(wú)有效監(jiān)控。因此，中國(guó)學(xué)生在申請(qǐng)這些私立學(xué)校時(shí)，需要十分謹(jǐn)慎。
