The Chilean Health Ministry reported on Friday the first case of A/H1N1 influenza in the most devastated zones by the earthquake on Feb. 27.
The ministry said the patient is a 5-year-old boy from Mocha Island, who was taken to Guillermo Grant Benavente Hospital in Concepcion city, where he is recovering.
Due to this case, the ministry intensified the vaccination against the A/H1N1 flu for the risky groups and all the people living in shelters and camps.
With this case, there have been confirmed 16 cases of this flu since Jan 1, 2010, the ministry said in a statement.
According to the statement, the situation has been expected, because the virus is still circulating in the world and "in our country, we are entering in a season when these kind of diseases will increase."
The ministry urged the country's assistance network to detect and treat early the possible cases of this flu. |
