  Passage 1

Did you know that dogs are social butterflies----they like to be with people? However, keeping them company isn't our sole occupation; we need to go to work or school. Compared to our lives, Our dogs lives are somewhat boring. That's why they bark, which makes our neighbors sore; or gnaw the armrest of the sofa, which somehow annoys the wives in particular.  The boredom of our pets seems to be difficult to solve. But the good news is that, now you don't need to read sophisticated psychology, because there are simple solutions to the problem. Things like new toys, a break in routines, and the company of other pets can make a difference to your dog. There is also software that will guide you on how to communicate with your pets. You might have noticed sometime in the past, certain TV programs have interested your dog more, so it's not a bad idea to let them watch a bit of TV. Alice, my dog sometime vet when he was sick or had a sore, said that her research showed that outdoor activities could also help pets cope with having nothing to do. So next time when you see your dog playing with an old shoe sole in the sun, don't put on a solemn face and hurry inside. Instead, cook yourself something on a solar stove, have a soda and enjoy the time with your dog.

  Passage 2

From the outset, I was against the idea. After all, who would have thought that such an outstanding outcome might be possible? And even if it could be possible, why wouldn't anyone with an ounce of intelligence want to try it? Anyway, this was how I almost came to be in the Guinness Book of Records.

It all started when we decided to develop a square watermelon so it would be easier to transport. At the outset we drew an outline of the size and shape we wanted, and selected fast growing seed known to output unusual shapes. The seeds were planted in an oval pattern around the edge of a former football oval, well known for its fertile soil. Many plants grew, and we selected a few young fruit to enclose within a square frame, taking care to also ensure there was an outlet through which we could inject our secret formula for square growth. It worked so well that to all outward appearances, we had been successful. We then contacted the Guinness people to outline our success, and were .invited to visit London with an example of our watermelon output.  So with an optimistic outlook we boarded the plane for London. However, our watermelon collapsed because it was stored next to the oven in the kitchen of the plane. All we had left was the outer part--six squares. When we tried to put them back together, they would always fall outward, so the Guinness people wouldn't accept our claim that all of the pieces had come from just one watermelon.
