　　【基本用法】

　　1.害怕的，恐懼的：

　　Don't be afraid. 別怕。

　　She is afraid of dogs. 她怕狗。

　　She is afraid of snakes. 她怕蛇。

　　He was afraid of nothing. 他什么也不怕。

　　She was afraid of waking him. 她擔(dān)心把他吵醒。

　　She was afraid to see you again. 她怕再次見(jiàn)到你。

　　1 was afraid to tell you. 我不敢告訴你。

　　They were afraid to be seen by others. 他們怕被別人看到。

　　He is afraid he will die. 他害怕他會(huì)死。

　　I was afraid I might hurt your feelings. 我擔(dān)心我會(huì)傷害你的感情。

　　She was afraid they would recognize her. 她擔(dān)心他們會(huì)認(rèn)出她來(lái)。

　　2.擔(dān)心的：

　　I'm afraid that he won't come. 我擔(dān)心他不會(huì)來(lái)。

　　"Is he not coming?" "I am afraid not.(I’m afraid so.)" “他不來(lái)嗎?”“看來(lái)不會(huì)(怕是這樣)。”

　　I’m afraid l can’t stay. 恐怕我不能待了。

　　I’m afraid you don’t see my point. 恐怕你沒(méi)聽(tīng)懂我的意思。

　　“Are we late?” “I’m afraid so. ” “我們遲到了嗎?”“怕是遲到了。”

　　I’m afraid I must ask you to leave the country. 對(duì)不起我得讓你離開(kāi)這個(gè)國(guó)家。

　　【考點(diǎn)說(shuō)明】

　　1. 通常用作表語(yǔ)，不用于名詞前作定語(yǔ)。

　　2. 是形容詞，不是動(dòng)詞，所以可說(shuō) Don't be afraid，不可說(shuō) Don't afraid。

　　3. 比較be afraid to do sth 與 be afraid of doing sth：前者表示害怕做某事或不敢做某事，后者有兩個(gè)意思，一是表示害怕做某事(與be afraid to do sth 同義)，二是表示擔(dān)心會(huì)發(fā)生某情況(所擔(dān)心的情況不一定會(huì)發(fā)生，此時(shí)不能與 be afraid to do sth 互換)：

　　I'm afraid to tell[of telling] her. 我不敢告訴她。

　　I was afraid of hurting her feelings. 我怕傷了她的感情。
