    Susan ： The baby-sitter called. His daughter is sick. Marilyn： What's
wrong ？

    Susan ： I think she has a stomachache. He's a good father. Marilyn
： So ……what do you think of him？

    Susan ： He's very nice. But I think he was nervous tonight. It was
his first date in two years. Marilyn： Will you see him again ？

    Susan ： I hope so. Marilyn ： This food is delicious. Susan： He
didn't get a thing to eat. Marilyn： You ordered enough for three or four
people， but I'm not complaining. The food is delicious. Susan： Who is
that？

    Marilyn ： Do you think it's……

    Susan ： No. [She goes to the door and looks through the peephole]
You won't believe it， Marilyn！

    Marilyn ： I believe it. Even without looking.

    「語言點(diǎn)精講」

    1. What happened？

    怎么了？出什么事了？Marilyn 隨后問的 "What's wrong？" 也是同樣的意
思。

    2. What do you think of him ？

    你覺得他怎么樣？Marilyn 實(shí)際想知道Susan 對Harry 的印象。

    這里的"think of"是“對…有（某種）看法”的意思。

    3. I hope so. 我希望如此。在這里相當(dāng)于"I hope to see him again. "
（我希望還能見到他。）

    4. He didn't get a thing to eat.相當(dāng)于 "He didn't eat anything."
（他什么也沒吃。）Susan 鼓勵Harry 回家去照顧生病的女兒在先，又惦念他未
吃飯。注意她在說這句話時的語氣，關(guān)心掛念的心情溢于言表。

    5. I'm not complaining. 我不在意。常在非正式場合使用。也可以說"It's
not a problem for me."

    6. Do you think it's……

    Marilyn 想說的是"Do you think it's Harry？" （會不會是Harry ？），
Marilyn 期待著Susan 來回答，所以她省略了句子的后一半。

    7. You won't believe it.你簡直無法相信。用以表現(xiàn)一種驚訝的情緒。也
可以說"You can't imagine it."
